THE VISUAL RECIPE

Understand the idea

Art direction: Graphite pencil on lightly textured ivory paper: fine directional hatching, varied line weight, blended mid-tones and precise eyes. Visible drawing decisions, not automatic edge tracing.
Composition: A close head-and-shoulders portrait with lightly indicated clothing; preserve the face angle and distinctive expression from the reference. Fade the shoulders into clean paper.
Light & materials: Interpret a single soft side light through graphite values; retain white paper for the highest highlights.
Check the result: Check graphite texture, intentional line weight and facial or geometric accuracy. No unintended colour cast, false technical measurements, garbled captions, signature or watermark.
